History

The Beginning:
Praying Pelican Missions (PPM) began in 2003 serving two communities in Belize. PPM expanded to Jamaica in 2007, and now annually serves more than 100 communities between the two countries, making it the largest provider of mission trips to Belize and Jamaica in the U.S. Praying Pelican Missions now serve in 12 locations throughout the world. PPM staff includes over 100 people from seven different cultures living in the U.S. and abroad.

The Name:
The significance of the name is that pelicans are common in Central America and the Caribbean, and the founders wanted a fun name to make a memorable logo out of which would help spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Also noteworthy is that the pelican is an ancient symbol of Christian sacrifice. The legend states that a mother pelican, in times when food was scarce, would sacrifice her life by pecking herself to feed her baby. Thus, as the mother pelican would give her life for her child, so did God give His Son’s life for us, that we may have eternal life.

The Heart:
Praying Pelican Missions wishes to partner directly with your church. We believe that healthy ministry is done through the local church. This provides opportunity to learn what God is doing in another part of the world, to encourage the local pastor and congregation, to share resources, and to follow up after the mission trip is complete.
We offer the opportunity for teams from North America to partner on a long-term basis with churches they have served through a PPM mission trip. We have numerous churches that have four to six years of ongoing partnerships and who have received multitudes of blessings through the development of these relationships. We ask that you might consider inviting us back at the end of each trip. This invitation to the team is the start of the possibility of a long term partnership.
