We've Arrived!
by Laura
June 23, 2012 at 11:30 PM

After a long morning of travel, we arrived in San Jose! We immediately met with Pastor Jairo and took off to the retreat center. It's up in the mountains and it's beautiful! We feel very blessed to stay here. Pastor Jairo introduced the church and the center to us and then we had lunch together.

This evening, we had the chance to experience a Costa Rican youth service. The spirit was moving and the passion was evident! Pastor Gerald led us in a small group conversation about sharing the gospel. We will remember truth, problem, solution and decision (and the corresponding hand signals!)

Looking forward to a day of worship with Oasis de Esperanza tomorrow. Thanks for all the prayers and support from back home!

A great first two days!
by Laura
June 25, 2012 at 10:25 PM

We have been blessed with a fantastic first few days of ministry. Yesterday we went to both the morning and evening services at Oasis de Esperanza and had a great time worshiping with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today, we woke up bright and early for our bus ride up the mountain. The first school we are working at is Cascajal. Their water supply is from further up the mountain, but is contaminated from all the livestock that live in that area. We are well on our way to installing the first system.

Here is Pastor Jonathan, explaining how the system works.

When the principal heard we were coming, he went on a quick errand to the store and came back with lots of sandpaper and paintbrushes! The desks have a lot of graffiti on it and they wanted a fresh start for when school begins in mid-July (they have a 2 week break starting on Monday).

The teachers at Patio de Agua primary school were incredible hosts today. We connected a water purification system to their pre-existing tank and had a chance to hang out with all the children at the school. Here we are in the classroom.

Successful Installation
by Laura
June 26, 2012 at 08:24 PM

We have successfully installed system #2! We have been naming them along the way. The first one is now "Abby" and "Betty" was completed today. We'll need a couple more names, one beginning with a "C" and one with a "D" for the next two!

Wednesday and Thursday
by Laura

Things continue to roll right along. Hard to believe we are already installing our last water system of the trip. Yesterday, part of our team was able to minister at the youth prison. They shared with one another and played soccer with the teenagers. The director of the prison came running out when it was time to taste the purified water. He grabbed a glass, took the very first drink and declared "Fresco!"

The other half of the team has been at an Assemblies of God school in Los Cuadros. The high schoolers were our main focus yesterday. We shared testimonies and a time of worship with them. Today, we are working with the younger kids in the elementary school. They are a rambunctious group of students and it's amazing to see the love and patience these teachers have with them. We can't wait to install this last system. It's a two tank system and it will be of great assistance for the school.

Tomorrow, we'll have a chance to see a different side of Costa Rica when we go zip lining in La Fortuna! Thanks for all the love, support and prayers from back home!
