Sunday in Haiti
by Jim August 5, 2012 at 09:18 PM Today we had our first full day in Haiti. We woke up, ate breakfast, got dressed and headed off to Church all before 6am. We loved every minute of the 3+ hour service! Some of us were even able to participate through song and testimony.
Mondays are better in Haitiby Jim N August 6, 2012 at 08:35 PM One thing we can all agree on, Mondays are better in Haiti. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise, ate breakfast, and jumped on the bus. Today was our first day at our worksite. This week, we are working to put a roof on a house for a family of 7. The house is on the side of a mountain, so today we spent time carrying all of the supplies up to the worksite. After that, we jumped in helping them put up the frame for the roof. We also sent a team out to do tree ministry. They planted 12 trees for 10 different families. They took the opportunity to pray with each family and hear their stories. It was a great opportunity that we will have the chance to do tomorrow as well.
Another wonderful day!by Jim N August 7, 2012 at 08:44 PM Today was another great day in Haiti. We started off our day with our normal routine of getting dressed, eating breakfast, and hopping on the bus. From there, we headed back out to Gressier where we continued our house project. This morning, we helped the family re locate a large pile of dirt that had accumulated in front of the house. We passed bucket after bucket until the job was done. While this was happening, a few of us were helping to complete the roof. We are happy to say that the roof is on!
Wednesday in Haitiby Jim N August 8, 2012 at 08:25 PM Today we woke up to clear skies as we got dressed, had our usual breakfast, and joined the rest of our team on the bus. Today we left for Gressier, knowing that it would be our last visit for the year. Our job today was a new house where our task was to help level out the property that was on the side of a hill. We used the pick axe to loosen the soil and then shoveled it into buckets that we passed. We enjoyed relating with the workers and spending time serving together. As the morning was ending, we stopped our work and walked to Dominiques house. Many of us had the opportunity to work on Dominiques house in years past. He is an excellent carver, so many of us purchased sculptures that he has created. We said our goodbyes to him and gave him one last hug. Shortly after we finished, the once clear skies turned grey and the rain began to pour. We said our goodbyes to the community, hugged the people that had helped us all week, and headed down to the bus to get out of the rain. One thing we have learned is that when it rains in Haiti, everything stops. With that, we headed back to the lodging facility a little earlier today. Once there, a game of soccer started in the court yard with a few of the kids that were in the area. A group of us also went on a walk in the community. It was great to spend the rest of the afternoon just taking it all in.
