Safe Arrival!
by Shannon Simonton
June 25, 2012 at 12:20 AM

We have arrived safely in Belize! After a long days travel (three flights and two long lay overs to be exact!), we are finally settled in and enjoying the friendly Belize atmosphere. After arriving at our home church, West Side Assembly of God, we went to an orphanage were we were blessed to play with the Belizean children for two hours. We also experienced our first Belize church service. It was so fun and also very powerful! There is much to look forward to this week and we are all so excited to see what God is going to do through us. Keep posted!

Today was our first day of Vacation Bible School at the elementary school! We had a great time singing songs, playing games and doing arts and craft. God's love was everywhere and the atmosphere was priceless! Our shirts are soaked but the Jesus party must go on!!

Home Visits!!

Walking around in the community for the first time was an exciting experience!! We were amaze to see how different their houses and yards are compared to our ones back at home. Everyone was so friendly and promised to send their kids out to join us for sports ministry after they came from school. Pastor Usher from the local church walked with us and guided us through the streets as we gave out tracks and invited everyone to our Wednesday night service. The picture was taken after a friendly Belizean offered us some fresh coconut! So delicious.

We just finished our second day at VBS.We loved meeting with the kids again and establishing even stronger relationships than we did the day before. Also, the weather was super nice today; cloudy and breezy! It was such a blessing. Now, we are heading out to visit the orphanage again!! Please continue to pray for us and the Belizeans.

Smiles of Belize!!
by Jeniecia Sanker
June 27, 2012 at 01:13 AM

Today the beautiful smiles of the Belizean children at Sports Ministry blessed our hearts. We are having so much fun just playing and loving on these children!! They are so open to us and find it as a pleasure to tell us about their families, homes, culture and ethnicity; they truly provided us with a natural taste of this peaceful country. In addition, we had a great time with the precious children at Dorothy Menzies Children Home as we played with them and gave them some beautiful handmade dolls made by the kind ladies from our church back at home. The children were delighted as they received their dolls; this led to us having a humorous time as we invented names for them. The name "Princess" was the most common as many kids picked that name for their dolls. Moreover, we emphasized that God made us each differently and unique similar to these dolls with different designs and that we are special to him and He loves us so much!!! Glory be to God in highest maker of heaven and earth!!

Home Visits, Bball, & Bridges!
by Shannon Simonton
June 29, 2012 at 12:03 AM

Today was a great day for house visits! At one o'clock a group of children from the church accompanied us as we went home to home inviting people to church. They gave us a small tour around the suburbs and showed us an old wooden bridge that crossed over a canal. We also got to play street basketball with some of the Belizean children! They sure do know how to play ball. But all fun aside, we were able to talk to many people and even got a few more children to tag along on our home visit train. Now we need to trust God that the seed we planted during these house visits will begin to grow!

Last Day at Sports Ministries
by Shannon Simonton
June 29, 2012 at 12:16 AM

Today was the last day at sports ministries. It was a crazy fun day! Children were everywhere playing tag, football (soccer), twister, volleyball, duck duck goose, hot potato, and they were also doing crafts! Sports ministries are great because it is an awesome time where we get to show God's love while practicing good sportsmanship and fairness. We were tired by the end of sports ministries, but we were also very satisfied with our hard days play.

Swim Park!

June 30, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Yesterday after pouring our hearts out at VBS, we all cooled off at a small water park. There was a pool,a slide, a snack shop, a slide, and kayaking. It was such a great treat after sweating and working hard all week! God is good to bless those who work hard in His name!

Last Night at Church
by Shannon Simonton
June 30, 2012 at 11:27 PM

Last night was our last night at Church. It was sad to say our goodbyes, but we also felt extremely joyful as we looked over the faces of those who we met during our stay. We shared so many memories, made so many jokes, and sang many songs together. God has worked in our lives during this time and we will go back a changed people with a new appreciation for life and His ministry. We know that we will never forget this trip, nor the people that we met during it. They will forever stay in our thoughts and prayers.
