Arrival
by C. Fry
March 2, 2009 at 05:07 PM

After weeks and months of planning, prayers, and preparation the Beryl Wisdom Adventist School touched down in Montego Bay at 6:15 p.m. After getting connected with the staff from Praying Pelican Missions, the team made the 15 minute journey to the Big Apple Hotel, also known this week as home away from home.

A brief introduction to the hotel and storing of the luggage was in order. We then met for a team meeting to get to know each other and learn about the details of ministry for the week.

We praise God for the safe arrival and look forward to His mercies this week.

First Day
by C. Fry
March 2, 2009 at 05:17 PM

This morning started early, although not as early as a regular school day. After eating a quick breakfast we got on the bus and headed to Sandy Bay for our introduction of ministry for the week. The 45 minute bus ride along the northwest coast of Jamaica is one of the most scenic and beautiful around. God sure made Jamaica an amazing country.

After arriving at the church we broke into three different teams. One of the teams went to the back of the church where the preschool is located. They spent the morning leading Bible School and assisting the teachers. One even asked Ms. Davis if she would teach her class of 3 year olds tomorrow as the teacher was going to be late in arriving. You should've seen the smile on Ms. Davis' face.

Another team spent the day in the sanctuary helping with the clinic. Tests for vision, diabetes, and high blood pressure were performed for members of the congregation. Many, after being tested, were instructed to come back later in the week for follow-up.

The remainder of the team went out in the community to help with home cleaning. Dusting, scrubbing and relationship building were in order as the team members shared the love of God with actions and words.

After a quick lunch we headed to Robin's Nest Orphanage. The road, while less than ideal lead to teh top of a hill where the facility sits. Looking north you can see Montego Bay and the coast.

The team spent time helping around the facility with painting, clothes sorting, cleaning and fixing. Team members spent some time feeding dinner to the youngest orphans and after dinner lead their prepared VBS for the evening.

We thank God for his protection and grace this day. He is amazing.

Terrific Tuesday!!!

Today has been amazing! Praise God for all of the wonderful work being done in Jamaica!

This morning Sylvia and the health crew saw a number of more patients. Mrs. James (a nurse from our host church and the community health director) is a wonderful partner to work with and we're enjoying her company and her expertise on the community.

Ms. Hall is the community service director and a member of the church as well. She has aided our team as they go into local homes to clean for the residents who are physically challenged or have health problems. This morning we did two more homes and were able to bless them with our work.

The pre-school Bible program is excellent. The children are glorious to spend time with and soak up the information and teachings. We have quite a crew helping in the mornings. This morning Ingrid lead the teaching surrounding Adam, Eve, and the creation story.

Brittany arrived safely around noon after attaining an updated passport!!! Brittany was picked up by Ms. Davis and Christopher Fry, our Praying Pelican Trip leader. They then headed up to Robin's Nest Children's home where they found the rest of the team working on some projects of painting, cleaning, and ironing clothes. It was our second day at Robin's Nest. The evening Bible devotion is currently going on up the hill from Montego Bay at the children's home.

Thank you for all your prayers and support back at home. Everyone is safe and healthy and it's a pleasure having the team from Beryl Wisdom. God bless you all!

God is at work!

Well it's Wednesday evening already. We are doing well overall. A few of the ladies are relaxing at the hotel after acquiring some back and leg pains. The rest of us are up at the church presiding over the Wednesday evening service.

This morning we had a work crew cleaning three new homes in the community with Ms. Hall. LaDarius got his hand plenty dirty and wet as he scrubbed clothes to clean them by hand. The health screenings went well again and we're looking forward to another great day of that tomorrow. After lunch Sylvia was able to head up to a couple homes for blood pressure and gluclose level check ups. The preschool work was great this morning too! Praise God for all he is doing!

This afternoon we had some down time to relax and focus on preparing for the evening service. We're looking forward to see how God can stretch us and anxious to see who we can meet! Pray for us as tomorrow we will spend time at the church again and head back up to Robin's Nest Children's Home. Thanks for all your support. God is so good!

Thursday and Friday

March 6, 2009 at 08:33 PM

Well the Sabbath is underway. Over the last two days we've seen God move in mighty ways.

On Thursday we wrapped up our health ministry, community cleaning ministry, and children's ministry in the Sandy Bay area. The cleaning crew on Thursday particularly were impacted during their time at Gertrude's home.

We also wrapped things up at the Robin's Nest Children's home up the hill in John's Hall. We had a chance to spend more time with the children, paint a walkway and hang laundry for the ladies. We fed the children, had supper and prayed over the ministry at the home. A water truck blocked our road home and gave us a later evening.

This morning we headed out to Ocho Rios. Dunn's River Falls was on the schedule for this monring and we all loved it. The weather turned out to be great, after having a few cool mornings during the week. After Dunn's River we had a few hours of free time and most of us shopped and bought souvenirs. This evening we had a supper at the hotel as the sun went down and the Sabbath began.

Praise God for all that has gone on. We have truely experienced something great this week and look forward to a great day tomorrow, socializing and leading at church. Thanks for your prayers. God bless you all back in Orlando.

Our finale
by Jon
March 7, 2009 at 09:17 PM

After a relaxing and fun day yesterday in Ocho Rios we returned to the Sandy Bay Adventist Church this morning for the Sabbath Celebration. The day started out with Sabbath school and then lead into Divine worship. A challenging message was given by the leader of the women's ministries for the entire conference, who coincidentally went to college with Mrs. Dixon!

We ate at Kaysie's home for the final time and showed her our appreciation for all of her hard work during the week. In the afternoon we joined the church congregation in some community evangelism and outreach before the "AY" program.

It was a priviledge to lead the AY program, with Jodie Anne and Andrew speaking on Biblical individuals, male and female, who were specifically chosen by God to do something great.

After the sunset and the Sabbath passed we celebrated the week with a "social" gathering at the church. Dancing, music, and food highlighted the night as we said our goodbye's to those we've grown close to. God did some amazing things during the week and we look forward to a fruitful return to Orlando. Praise the Lord!!!
