We've arrived safe and sound! Got some time to meet everyone and worship together tonight and now we're all exhausted and ready to get some sleep so we can dive into ministry tomorrow! Please pray for us and for those we will be ministering to/with this week.
(Picture to come very soon!)

Hey Everyone!!
So far the trip has been amazing! We landed safely in Jamaica around 3 O’clock and were met outside by our wonderful leaders Doug and Brian. We drove to our hotel and it is better than we all expected. That night we met the other two church groups at the Nutshell. The Nutshell is the place we eat breakfast at everyday and where the other two church groups are staying. After enjoying a great dinner of grilled chicken, rice and beans, and mixed vegetables, we had an orientation and a short worship service. Then, in honor of two birthdays, we got to enjoy cups of ice cream. We headed back to our hotel and got to take cold showers.
Today we left our hotel at about 7:30 a.m. and headed to the Nutshell to eat breakfast and have a short meeting. After our meeting we drove for a short distance to a small restaurant to eat our lunch. After this meal we drove about a block to the early childhood school. Here we were able to play with the children and teach them about God. We left the school and drove an hour to our next site. Here we would be helping to build a well-needed school room. At 4:30, we rode over to the Unity Baptist Church for our tent crusades. We will enjoy a meal together and then go to the service. Tonight our group’s job is to have two youth read their testimonies to everyone. Today, it’s Mallory and Megan’s turn to read to the group. The past two days have been fantastic and memorable. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good!

Terrific Tuesday!

Greetings from Jamaica! The crusade was fun last night! Megan and Mallory’s testimonies went great and the sermon had dances incorporated! Today we went to a girls’ home and visited the residents there. The girls that live there have had some trouble in their homes and they really needed to hear the word of God. It was great to see the Lord at work! After that, we went back to the construction site we were at yesterday and worked hard mixing cement and tying steel. Even though it was hot, we had a ton of fun! Now we are at church again and in a few minutes, we will enjoy a meal and the crusade will begin! Tonight our group’s job at the crusade is to present three more testimonies and a few skits. Talk to you soon!

Hey everybody!
The crusade last night was so interesting! Abbie, Sara, and Rachel’s testimonies were very good and very entertaining! Today we went to the infirmary to spread the word of God to unfortunate elderly who can no longer take care of themselves and have nowhere to go. We went to the infirmary thinking that we would be helping the people there, but instead we got in the van knowing that we have truly been spoken to! It was very moving and memorable. After that we went back to the St. James school to play with the children, who were very excited to see us! We had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends! After the school we went to a “waterhole” where we got to spend a few hours relaxing in the cold! We bonded well with other groups. Now we are all talking and having fun at the church about to enjoy another awesome meal and about to listen to Julie and her fantastic sermon. We know for sure she will rock it! We hope that tomorrow will be even better!

Last day of ministry
by FPC Mission Team
July 2, 2011 at 08:09 PM

Today was our last ministry day. We worked at the construction site today where we tied rebar together to place in the forms for the concrete. We ended up having two lunches because our delivered lunch was late so we ate peanut butter sandwiches. We ate those just in time for our delivered lunch to show up…. Opps. After that we headed to the Girls home where we performed skits and sang some songs for them. They loved it! Then we were invited to stay for a special ceremony that was to celebrate the retirement of the two guards. Some of the girls performed a little skit about their average experience with them. Of course it was slightly exaggerated, but very funny. It was a treat for us and we all enjoyed it! The sermon by Julie last night was excellent and the opening ( By Cody) and closing ( By Derek) were also excellent! And Lori did a fabulous Job reading the scripture for the sermon! Tomorrow we have a fun day. We are being treated to a trip to a waterfall right on the beach. Then we will head to Ocho Rios for some souvenir shopping. Then they are treating us to a nice dinner at a restaurant in a little harbor/ yacht club. We are really looking forward to tomorrow!

Relaxing day

Friday we had the opportunity to go to Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios and climb a beautiful waterfall with ice cold water! After a long, hot week this was VERY refreshing! We had some time to hang out on the beach as well and enjoy God's beautiful creation. After enjoying the people and experiences of the week it was hard to relax and enjoy some down time, but it was good to know how much God has moved in us and through us in a little less than a week!
Thank you for your continued prayers throughout the week!

Wow.........your entries brought smiles to my face as I am reading and looking at the pictures I feel I am right there with you all!!!!! Prayers of thankfulness for your safe arrivals and return, prayers of God to be with each of you as you spread His good news, prayers for strength, wisdom and most of all the opportunity to spread His love through all of you!!! Malllory's Mom & Dad

Hello, dear, your parents miss you. But be glad you aren't here, we're working hard to get ready for company. Collin is not happy about having to do twice as many white-board chores as usual. (It could be that he misses you most of all!) Ha Ha! Maybe that will teach him not to skip mission trips!. Give everyone a hug for us. Hardly an hour goes by that I don't think of all of you and ask God to bless you, your work, & those you serve.

Jodi

Updates are fab! Looks like you're a wee bit wilty but ever so well! Especially loving the pic of you at the building site--brings back memories of slaving in the sun, clearing brush...some of you remember... :) Anyway, keeping you in my prayers and trusting that God is using you mightily and that Jamaica will shift a bit because you came. Hug for each one of you, Jodi

Dave and Karen Larsen

Pastor Meg Newswanger

I trust that no news is good news, and that all is well as you spread the Good News in Jamaica. You are often in my thoughts, and when I think of you my thoughts turn to prayer as I ask God to bless each of you and the work you are doing. He will be your strength, as you lean on Him.

Jodi Hill

Grateful God got you there, God holds you there and God is using you there! You've been in my prayers, each one of you. I know you guys totally ROCK and that any mission trip organization, Praying Pelican or otherwise, is freakin' fortunate to have you with them in ministry! Both Charlie and Emily (my kids) went on the Belize mission trip--it was a life changer and full of over-the-top memories! I pray as much for you... Work hard, love well and always look Up. Oh, and know, we homies are lifting you in prayer and sending lots of love. I look forward to updates and pics :) Miss you, miss being with you... Godspeed, Jodi
