Sunday Morning Church!

by Maddie Howell | July 10, 2016 1:45 PM

This morning, we got to experience what it's like to go to church in Haiti! There were similarities and differences, but the coolest thing is seeing that we are all worshiping the same God. It was a great service, not to mention the incredible music!

First full day

After church, we got to hangout with kids and play a LOT of sports. Then, we went on a walk around the mountain. It was hot, but so beautiful getting to see more of the country. We are tired but we are so ready for our first work day tomorrow!! Pray for renewed energy so we can serve the best we can!

First ministry day!

by Maddie Howell | July 11, 2016 9:09 PM

This morning was our first work day. One group did outreach around the neighborhood, learning about the people living here. They are all so welcoming and loved having visitors to their home! We also enjoyed getting to pray with them afterwards. The second group did construction to help build a wall in front of the church for privacy. We had a lot of little helpers along the way!

1st vbs with the kids

by Maddie Howell | July 11, 2016 9:19 PM

After lunch we got to lead kids in the area with vacation bible school. We taught them about how much God loves them, and told the story of the birth of Jesus. We had a skit and everything! After, we played duck duck goose, Simon says, and a few other games with everyone in front of the church. We all had such a great time!

Work day #2

by Maddie Howell | July 12, 2016 6:31 PM

Today the groups doing construction and outreach switched. Once again, we had a lot of kids willing to help carry rocks. It's really cool getting to experience two cultures building relationships and growing with each other!

Vbs continues!!

Second day of vacation bible school was a success!! A lot of kids showed up again and they never wanted to leave. Today we talked about how God's love is kind, and how we should be kind to one another. We told a story about Jesus being kind and healing a sick girl!

Oh yeah, and happy birthday Camden!! Hope you felt so loved today! :)

Last full ministry them:(

by Maddie Howell | July 13, 2016 6:49 PM

Once again, we had both outreach and building going on this morning. We met some more welcoming people and loved getting to talk to them, including a young lady we bought cookies from. The view and weather today was perfect! The wall is making a lot of progress as well!

We helped dig the foundation and after three days it looks like this! Isn't it great?

Vbs #3!!

by Maddie Howell | July 13, 2016 7:01 PM

Last day of vacation bible school was this afternoon. Today we talked about how God's love is forgiving, and told the story about Zacchaeus and how he was forgiven. We played with bubbles and parachutes, and even passed out rosaries as the kids left! It was a successful last day to say the least.

by Maddie Howell | July 14, 2016 3:26 PM

Today we went back into Port Au Prince and got to relax at the beach. Some of us went on a boat ride, and we all got to buy some souvenirs! Tonight we will stay at the Good Shepard Orphanage before leaving tomorrow.

Praying Pelican People! We continue to pray for you! Today we enlisted another 100 or so at the 8AM Sacred Heart and 2PM Good Shepherd Masses! We are also offering prayers of gratitude to God for you and our Haitian families that you now know. I am so happy you could also hit the beach and relax some before coming home. We have MISSED you, love you, and welcome you back home. In Christ Jesus ...

Wow! Yes, there is also some visible progress with the wall, but as you know, it is the RELATIONSHIPS that you initiated with our brothers and sisters in Haiti that are crucial and even more important. God bless, safe travels home, and c u soon! Greg and Vicki

So many people are praying and thinking about all of you beautiful people in Haiti. Fr. Ralph mentioned not once, but twice at Sunday Mass how each and all of us need to pray for our representative Sacred Heart group members and as partners in the Body of Christ (my wording here, but you get the idea). Work hard, enjoy, love, laugh, and learn about each other. Spoff
