Alright ladies, this post’s for you.

You’ve decided to go on a domestic or international mission trip – you’ve paid the deposit, started telling friends and family about your upcoming adventure and you are so ready! But wait, there’s that pesky little question just won’t go away..

“But what do I even wear?”

What an excellent question! It may seem frivolous and shallow, but knowing and choosing what to wear/pack is one of the things that can easily become a distraction and cause a panic of stress. Well, you are in luck! I have here the first chapter of the lady missionaries of Praying Pelican Missions’ “The Ultimate Mission Trip Style Guide”  for you!

But before we get to that, here’s three quick additional tips that will help you get prepared for your mission trip.

1. Before you begin packing for any trip, always read through your clothing guidelines. Remember that you are going to a culture different from your own, follow the rules set in place by your mission leader or local host. Each country and situation will vary, be sure you are aware of what is acceptable and what is not. If you are unsure, don’t be embarrassed to ask questions, chances are others are wondering the same thing.

2. Don’t dress to impress. Remember that being comfortable, modest and functional are the top priority. We want all distractions to be removed from how we look (or feel about how we look.) Also, we want our clothes to keep us safe and healthy – heavy fabrics can pose a risk for overheating, open toed shoes leave your feet open to injury on the work-site. Think through the items that you are going to be wearing and ask yourself, are these clothes comfortable, modest and functional? If the answer is yes, move on to tip number three.

3. Remember the time frame you are packing for. If you are only going on mission for a week, contrary to what you may think – you do not need two 50 pound suitcases worth of items. I say this from personal experience, I’ve been the one lugging 100+ pounds of luggage to a week long church camp (yes, really). You may think you need that blow-dryer, straightener or entire 10 pound box of Gain detergent…but in reality, you don’t. Start packing for your trip a few days in advance and each time you re-pack, force yourself to take out 3+ items. Use that space left over for donations for the host pastor, Bibles in the host country’s language, or gift’s for in-country missionaries… the options are endless!

“The Ultimate Mission Trip Style Guide” is a compilation of various style ideas while for you while you are on your mission trip, from Praying Pelican Missions lady missionaries on how to look good, feel good and take the pressure off of packing your suitcase for a new culture, climate and lifestyle.

Read on and learn a few tips and tricks to keep you feeling confident that you are following guidelines, feeling comfortable, staying healthy and keeping your focus on the important elements of the trip, not on the length of your shorts.
