Hurricane Michael Relief

PPM Disaster Response: Hurricane Michael Relief

Want Info?

In under 24 hours, Hurricane Michael intensified from a Category 1 hurricane to a major Category 4 hurricane with a direct impact on the northeast Gulf Coast. This rapid growth was caused by extreme warm ocean temperatures, making the worst-case scenario a reality. When Hurricane Michael made landfall, it did so as the most powerful hurricane to hit the contiguous United States since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

The greatest impact of the storm was seen in Mexico Beach, Florida and the surrounding areas, where the storm made landfall with wind speeds in excess of 130 mph. Homes were completely demolished, trees were shredded in half, and thousands of residents were left without power.

Beginning immediately, PPM will be facilitating financial donations to those affected. If you would like to give, please follow the "Donate" button below. In the coming weeks, our staff will be assisting local churches in the affected areas as they respond to the immediate needs of those impacted by the storm. Beginning January 2019, we will have opportunities for mission teams to join us in the long-term recovery efforts that will be needed. Please see the open dates below for winter, spring, and summer opportunities.

Thank you for your partnership. We believe that when the Church is united, God does incredible things. It is times like this that we see that unity more than ever. We are praying for the many people who were impacted by this storm. May God give them safety, comfort, and guidance in this time.

Updates From The Field

The Aftermath

by Robin Parkes | October 16, 2018 7:55 PM

It has been 6 days since Hurricane Michael made landfall and people in Mexico Beach are just now being allowed to return to their homes. The hurricane has claimed 29 lives throughout 4 states and some people are still unaccounted for in the hardest hit areas.

There are still many without power, some without water, and cell service is spotty or unavailable in areas.

As linemen work to restore power, others work to clean up debris and clear down trees or provide food and water to those in need. The Church is responding to the needs of these communities and we look forward to joining them in the coming months.

Three of our staff will be going down to the Panhandle to serve and meet with partners and learn how our teams can best serve alongside them in 2019. We invite you to join us in supporting these relief efforts by praying, giving, and going!

Mexico Beach was on the east side of the storm and has been devastated. There are 200,000 people without power in the Florida panhandle and others without power in southeastern Alabama and southern Georgia. Hurricane Michael is still a Category 3 as it moves into Alabama and Georgia.

Hurricane Michael Has Made Landfall

by Anna Morgan | October 10, 2018 7:34 PM

Hurricane Michael made landfall at around 1:30pm Eastern Time near Mexico Beach, Florida as a strong Category 4 storm. The damage is severe and widespread. Areas on the west side of the storm experienced a storm surge of 10' or more. Winds were up to 150 mph.

The storm is expected to continue inland across south Alabama and Georgia.

At Praying Pelican Missions, we are praying for all those effected and prayerfully working towards ways to partner with those in the path of the storm.
