Arrived in Kentucky

by Johnee Shields | June 24, 2023 10:27 PM

After a long drive we reached Madisonville First United Methodist Church where we will be staying this week. We got all settled in and got to spend some time getting to know each other and the other team here. Now it’s time to rest up for a day of worship ahead tomorrow

Visiting the Tornado Memorial

by Johnee Shields | June 25, 2023 6:22 PM

Today we worshiped with Madisonville First United Methodist Church who had a beautiful traditional worship band / choir that was so powerful and we even got to learn and celebrate some of the church’s history. We attended Sunday school with members of the congregation as well before heading to the December 10, 2021 tornado memorial where we were able to witness some of the devastation and pray over the community.

A Hard Days Work

by Johnee Shields | June 26, 2023 10:53 PM

Today we were blessed with the opportunity to serve at 4 different houses with people who have been affected by the December 10th, 2021 tornado. At two of the houses we did drywalling and one of those two needed to be caulked as well. At another we are redoing some flooring and siding. And at the other house today we removed all the old siding, started putting insulation on, built a wall for the crawl space below the house, and began work redoing the bathroom. Through the heat and hard work we all saw God moving within the team and the community. We serve such an amazing God!

Home Dedication

by Ronda Baldwin | June 26, 2023 11:29 PM

It was an honor to be present at Habitat for Humanities dedication of five new homes in Monday afternoon. The governor came to bless the families and thank those who have helped so many have a home after being displaced since the December 2021 tornado. He reassured the rest of the community that they have not been forgotten, and the work will continue until they are all home. We are blessed to be able to be a part of that continuing work.

Meeting the Governor

by Ronda Baldwin | June 26, 2023 11:30 PM

Governor Andy Beshear came to meet us and thank us for our service to the community. We even got to bond with him over our shared choice of eyewear!

Small spaces and Spiders

by Ronda Baldwin | June 26, 2023 11:33 PM

Despite our preference of being above ground and in a spiderless environment, we were grateful for the opportunity to strengthen Ms. Janice's floor to make it safe for her to move around in her wheelchair.

Our Habitat House

by Ronda Baldwin | June 26, 2023 11:36 PM

We are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help finish six houses on one street. Today we learned how to caulk and insulate walls. Our supervisor, Tim, who lives just 45 minutes from Chambersburg, said we did a great job!

A New Ceiling

We got to fix the holes in Mrs. Jennifer's bedroom by installing a new ceiling. We can't wait for her to see it!

We’re Really “Diggin” This Project

by Johnee Shields | June 27, 2023 11:15 PM

To continue work on the bathroom we had to dig out an old pipe and replace it with a new one. We also got insulation put up around the whole house and got a good amount of siding put on. It was hard hot work but we know the Lord is with us and it is so wonderful to work alongside each other as we serve our great God!

We’re Measuring Siding But Gods Love is Beyond Measure

by Johnee Shields | June 29, 2023 4:46 PM

Wednesday we measured, cut, and put up siding at one of the work sites.  We are really enjoying working together for the glory of God to help this community that was struck so harshly by a tornado.

Lots of Bricks

by Johnee Shields | June 29, 2023 4:50 PM

Wednesday we also patched up a brick patio and extended it to cover the trench where we dug out the water pipeline. It was dirty work but God filled us with his joy while we did it!

Love Selflessly

by Johnee Shields | June 29, 2023 4:55 PM

We spontaneously decided to deep clean the kitchen of the house we’re working at. Those counters are now shining just like the Holy a spirit is shining through our hearts!

Fun and Fellowship

by Johnee Shields | June 29, 2023 5:02 PM

For lunch today we enjoyed this delicious local pizza place. We even got to have a great conversation and pray with one of the employees! God is at work even when we don’t expect it.
