Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

by Katrina Hulme | July 9, 2018 10:56 PM

We all had our own roles as we worked to make progress on painting the outside of the school. We are nearly finished with the outside after today, and we will begin painting the courtyard walls tomorrow.

Little Helpers!

by Katrina Hulme | July 9, 2018 11:04 PM

Some of the neighborhood & school kids started as spectators watching us paint, but before long they had all grabbed a paintbrush to help us paint the school! It is a beautiful example of working together with the community.

Soccer Break

by Katrina Hulme | July 9, 2018 11:06 PM

Even on our breaks from painting, we still are building relationships with the community kids. And what better way than a friendly soccer game!

Simon Says...

by Katrina Hulme | July 10, 2018 7:05 PM

Our day started out with more school ministry. The kids laughed and got a little bit crazy with some of our games! It was so fun to see the joy on their faces when we returned to the school today.

Soccer: All Day Every Day!

by Katrina Hulme | July 10, 2018 7:07 PM

We took the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade class out to play soccer this morning. The greatest part about playing soccer is that it knows no languages!

Jesus Loves Me

by Katrina Hulme | July 10, 2018 7:29 PM

As students arrive at school each day, they will see this mural and be reminded that Jesus loves each one. It is not only a beautiful way to decorate the school, but it also is reminder of our time spent with them this week. Since they have not had many foreigners come to visit before, we pray that these small reminders would help them know that they are not forgotten, they are loved, and they have a lot of friends in South Dakota!

Preparing for Food Distribution

by Katrina Hulme | July 10, 2018 10:44 PM

As we keep our hands open for what God has for us this week, we feel led to distribute food to the families in Playa de Oro. Tonight we shopped and prepared the bags of food we will distribute!

Brillo de Sol

by Katrina Hulme | July 11, 2018 10:17 PM

We journeyed to Antigua this morning to spend time with these joyful kids at a special needs school called Brillo de Sol. The teachers and volunteers care so much about their kids and they are working hard to help them grow into their potential. We were blessed to spend some time playing soccer, jump rope, limbo, keep away, and parachute with the kids!

Food Distribution

by Katrina Hulme | July 11, 2018 10:28 PM

This afternoon, we returned to Playa de Oro to distribute some bags of food. We sat to meet with families, hear about their lives, and then bless them with some basic food supplies. God reminded us that we can trust His plans even when they aren't our own plans: as more families showed up than we anticipated, we were able to distribute more food. Praise God for His provision!

Finishing Touches!

by Katrina Hulme | July 12, 2018 6:57 PM

Today is our last day at the school of Playa de Oro, so we are making the most of our time with the kids while finishing up some murals!

Meeting Families

by Katrina Hulme | July 12, 2018 7:03 PM

We met with more families today during food distribution. The needs here are great, but everyone is so kind and grateful for the food we have given them. Many have given us gifts in return, and they all have thanked us for coming so far away to their small, often forgotten, community. We came to bless them, but they have blessed us in return!

Hard Goodbyes

by Katrina Hulme | July 12, 2018 7:06 PM

Saying goodbye to the kids and families we met this week is difficult. We are thankful to have made such great friendships that make goodbyes so hard.

"Welcome! With Love, your friends from St. Michael's Church"

by Katrina Hulme | July 12, 2018 7:12 PM

This mural & message will remind the kids & community that we love them, even after we are gone. We are trusting God to continue the work in Playa de Oro and hoping that we will see our friends again sooner than later!

It's not a goodbye

by Eduardo Herrera | July 15, 2018 6:28 AM

It's time to go home and share with friends and relatives about how much God impacted our lives throughout this week. We're heading home knowing that God has a plan even though we cannot see it at the moment. It's not a goodbye, it's a see you soon Guatemala
