The Travel Tales

by Cassie | April 21, 2012 10:39 PM

From planes flying over the Caribbean to a long bus ride twisting through the mountains, we have had a day full of travel tales. We finally arrived in Jacmel tonight and are getting settled in for our week in our home above the church. We are excited for the ministry to begin tomorrow when we head to church. In the meantime, it's time for some rest! Praise the Lord for the day! We all made it safely and are enjoying our time so far in Haiti!

Returning to Worship

by Cassie | April 22, 2012 10:12 AM

We enjoyed walking down the steps to the church today. We noticed the finished floor and the familiar faces from last year. A blessing. We are so glad we were able to come back to Jacmel. We were able to share a testimony, a song, and Woogy preached about the importance of keeping God's Word as the most important thing in our lives. Mostly, though, we just worshiped with the congregation and listened in. Now we are looking forward to the rest of the day.

A Special Blessing

by Cassie | April 22, 2012 7:12 PM

This afternoon after a wonderful meal, we had an opportunity to bless some children from an orphanage nearby by bringing them to the beach. They were so excited to go on the taptap. They sang all the way! Once we got to the beach, we took some time to tell the kids the story of Jesus calming the sea. We got to play with these kids in the water. Their nannies were watching carefully to see how the kids were doing and keeping them safe the whole time. Time flew by and we ended the time there with some fun with a parachute. This trip was such a blessing to those kids. We know that they don't get to do this kind of thing all that often. We are glad to have this opportunity.

It was close!

by Cassie | April 22, 2012 7:16 PM

On our first day of playing soccer here in Jacmel, it was a good, tough, close game. We enjoyed it. We were learning the terrain and will be able to have a better grasp tomorrow. We enjoyed playing today for sure. At the end of our time, a deacon from the church led a short time with the guys who came to play and invited them to the Jesus Film on Tuesday night. We look forward to playing more in the next couple days! We are all getting cleaned up and will be ready to rest tonight!
It was close!

Noah

by Cassie | April 23, 2012 2:29 PM

Today, we started the day with having devotions with the kids downstairs. We arrived and they were all sitting quietly in their uniforms. It looked like they didn't quite know what to think of us. We began with a song and then moved quickly into our story time. We learned about Noah. God loved Noah and Noah obeyed God. The kids were very responsive after the story in answering questions about Noah and what God did for him. We were able to help the kids color a picture of Noah's ark and a rainbow with some animals. The kids loved it! At the end, they were so excited to show us their beautiful pictures. We prayed with the kids and will continue to pray that they will remember how much God loved Noah and how much God loves them.

Rocks, Buckets, Teamwork!

by Cassie | April 23, 2012 2:36 PM

After school ministry was over, we headed to our work site where we found Pastor Duplessy and some workers already working hard digging a foundation for a wall. We jumped right in to digging, sifting dirt, and passing buckets of water to mix cement with later. We formed a line and passed many rocks from one end of the yard to the other so the foundation could be laid. It was hard work and we worked a lot, so we made sure to drink lots of water. We love working though! A truckload of rocks came toward the end of our time there so we moved them quickly across the road where we needed them for the rest of the foundation. Time flew by and it was time to go have lunch and get ready to play some soccer! So, off we went! Now we are ready to play! This is all for the glory of God! Rocks, buckets, sifting, loving children, and playing soccer. May He be glorified in us and use us.
Rocks, Buckets, Teamwork!

That One

by Cassie | April 23, 2012 6:16 PM

We know that the point of our coming here was not to play soccer, but share the Gospel with others. We were able to do that today. Even though that one--the ball in the air in the picture--went in, we did not win the game, however, following the game we shared the Gospel and with the children who had come to watch. Many children came to know the Lord. That one was a good shot, but in the grand scheme of things, we know that God was working in a much greater way than we could imagine. Praise God for using us to bring others to Him. He is so good!
That One

Oh, Zaccheaus

by Cassie | April 24, 2012 3:08 PM

We started out our day with the children in the school. They learned about Zaccheaus today and about how badly he wanted to see Jesus. It was so precious to see the little boy be Zaccheaus on Anderson's (the tree's) shoulders. The kids loved it! We colored with them and continued to show them the love of God. They warmed up to us much more today and it was really tough to leave. We are looking forward to being able to share with them again tomorrow!
Oh, Zaccheaus

Rockin' it out!

by Cassie | April 24, 2012 3:12 PM

When we got to the work site, there was plenty of work waiting for us. We were surprised at how much the workers got done before we got there. To start off with, we rocked it out by moving rocks onto the property. It was a lot of fun! We sang and played as we worked! Once the rocks were finished we moved a lot of dirt! We were building a driveway over the foundation of the wall where the gate will go. It took a lot of packing down (marching, walking, and dancing on the dirt) and a lot of passing of buckets. There was lot of shoveling and sweating happening as well! We were doing that until after our wonderful spaghetti lunch and saw a lot of progress be made!
Rockin' it out!

After Work

by Cassie | April 24, 2012 3:14 PM

Here we are at our work site--all sweaty and dirty!
After Work

A Short Visit

by Cassie | April 24, 2012 3:17 PM

We had the opportunity this afternoon to visit the orphanage again. We were able to share the story of the Good Samaritan with them and color with them. We gave each child a bracelet with the colored beads and explained what the beads meant. We were glad to go back there and see them again. It was a sweet time. Now, we are off to our soccer game to play before church tonight!
A Short Visit

The Goal

by Cassie | April 24, 2012 8:34 PM

This afternoon was a busy one! We went from the orphanage to the soccer field pretty quickly and played a long time. These guys are GOOD! We enjoyed every minute of playing though and have been spared injuries. Pastor Duplessy even played goalie for the other team for a while! After the game devotions were held on the field again and it was a beautiful thing. Several kids gave their lives to the Lord again today! Praise God for what He is doing! We came back from the soccer field, ate and showered quickly, then headed downstairs to church. We sang together with the congregation in Creole--what a wonderful time that was! After, we began the Jesus Film. The goal of this trip is to share the love of God with people and pray that people come to know the Lord. We are so glad that God is truly using us here in Haiti!

Lots of Rain!

by Cassie | April 25, 2012 3:13 PM

We've been hearing about all the rain back in the states and have been asked to bring some sunshine back with us, but we have been having a very rainy day today. It started last night, took a break, and continued through the morning. We started our day as planned with children's ministry in the school. Many children couldn't come today because of the rain, but we enjoyed our time there! We love those kids! After school ministry was finished, we raced back upstairs to not get super wet. This afternoon, it stopped raining enough for us to play with some of the kids downstairs and we had a great time! We also got to go to the soccer field but the mud was so deep, so we weren't able to play and the other team didn't show up--so that's a win for us! God knows what He is doing and He knows we need the rain, so we are continuing serving Him and sharing His love wherever we can! We are looking forward to a special treat this evening and to whatever God has planned for us tomorrow!
Lots of Rain!

Good Rainy Morning!

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 6:21 AM

Good rainy morning everyone! We woke up to the sound of rain on the roof this morning and since our plans were for outside ministry, we know that our plans may change. We know that God knows what He is doing. So, we are still looking forward to our day on this rainy morning in Haiti. Continue to pray for us as this is our last day here! We want to make the most of it.
Good Rainy Morning!

Answered Prayers!

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 4:31 PM

The rain stopped! Praise the Lord! And we were off this morning to go to a mountain community to use soccer as an evangelism tool. The ride was long and adventurous in our taptap, but we made it up by lunch time! We got to enjoy fruit right from the trees, coconut milk, and--of course--peanut butter sandwiches for lunch before we really got into the community. By the time we finished eating there were so many people waiting for us to see what we were going to do...
Answered Prayers!

Children Everywhere!

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 4:34 PM

As we walked down to the soccer field, children and adults alike seemed to come out of nowhere. We began with playing with the kids for a while then brought them all in for the story of the Good Samaritan. There were so many kids there and it was such a blessing to see the teens and adults gather and listen as well!
Children Everywhere!

The Sidelines

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 4:38 PM

After the Bible story, we started a game with the older guys. We asked the people if they thought we could win. They laughed. So many people watched from the sidelines as we slipped around and played against a really good team. Some of the girls played hand games while the rest of us were watching the game. All around, relationships were being formed, God's love was being shared, and fun was being had by all. Praise God for the time on the sidelines and on the field.
The Sidelines

The Whole Community

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 4:42 PM

As the game went on, there were so many people who showed up from the community. They truly enjoyed the entertainment of a good game! We finished our time there with sharing another Bible Story and the Gospel. Many children came to know the Lord today! Thanks be to God! He truly was working in amazing ways today. The community leaders were so grateful for us being there. They were blessed. We know that it was not because of us, but because of what God was doing through us and in sending us there. He even made a way for us to go there when we thought we may not be able to go! Praise God for all He has done!
The Whole Community

One Last Time

by Cassie | April 26, 2012 9:41 PM

Tonight we had the chance to go to church and worship with the congregation one last time. Pastor Duplessy thanked us for coming and serving here in Jacmel. He loved the soccer especially. He presented Woogy with a framed certificate thanking us. We love being here. We really do believe that God has used this week to impact eternity in our lives and those we touched! Be praying for us as we have a long travel day tomorrow! We are sad to leave but ready to share all about what God has done this week. All for His glory!

Wow, I am so proud of Tracy, Hannah and the whole team. I read these posts and see the work that you are doing...This is His will and now is the time of your calling..as is your whole life. This specific week, day, hour and minute, your doing the work that has been predetermined for you. The work may be hard but as you can see, the lives you are touching are hard. The things you say and do this week will make a profound difference in the lives of those you are serving. Again, I am so proud of you. Stay strong! Matthew 25:40 (Whole Chapter) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Lori: Just wanted to say Hi and see how you are doing. We are so proud and love you so much that you take on these amazing challenges. You and your group are truly doing GOD's work. Just talkied to Marty to find the password and he told us that it was raining down there and might hamper some of the things you were doing. You are gift and you are filled with so many gifts that make us so proud and so blessed that you are our daughter. I guess I'm getting too mushy. But what are parents for except to embarrass their children every so often. We wish you and your fellow parishoners a safe journey home and then you can tell us of all your accomplishments. We love you.....!!!!!!!!!

Hi Derek and team - so very much looking forward to seeing you all soon. I'm sure it's been a long week, but been rewarding in so many ways. I received this text yesterday and immediately though of you all. 1 Peter 4:10 - Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's GRACE in it's various forms. To see the updates daily has been a blessing to me and a testimony of this verse in action. Again, I am so proud of you son. Praying for a great rest of the day serving Him and safe travel home. Love, Dad.

Hello Faxon Girls! Missing you like crazy! I called Dad yesterday to check in on him and he and Justin were out fishing. I think they were trying to catch some dinner. Luckily they made it out without any capsizing incidents, but also no tasty fish. I heard the Smiths were taking pity and invited Dad over for some dinner (a reprieve from the frozen meals and lack of fish) :) Love the pictures and seeing all the work you are all doing there. Looks like you need to up your game some more on the soccer field though! I want to hear that you guys got some more wins in before the end of the trip! Keep working hard and know we are praying for you and thinking of you here in NH. Love you both!

Part of a song that I bet you are all familiar with..."Follow You"...."All my needs you have supplied, when I was dead, you gave me life, How could I not give it away so freely? And I'll follow you into the homes of the broken, follow you inot the world, meet the needs of the poor and then needy God, follow you into the world. Use my hands, use my feet, to make your kingdom come, to the corners of the earth until your work is done. Faith without works is dead, and on the cross, your blood was shed, so how could we not give it away so freely...and I'll follow you into the homes of the broken, follow you into the world, meet the needs for the poor and the needy God, follow you into the world!...I give all myself, I give all myself, I give all myself to you....I give all myself, I give all myself, and I give all myself to you!" Thank each one of you for so selflessly giving and being God's hands and feet to those that so desperately need to hear His truth and know His love. Hey, Danny! It is wonderful to hear how God is working in and through your lives this week. I trust that even though the day was rainy, you saw God at work whether planting spiritual seed or reaping His fruit or just personal refreshment. And as your time in Haiti is coming to a close the prayer in Ephesians 3 came to mind: verse 16 "that He would grant you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man;" and verse 20 "Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. How exciting to know that the offering your team has made in these few days will be multiplied through God's power not only to the lives you have touched in Haiti but in each team member's life as you return home! Beyond all that we ask or think - Praise God! Looking forward to having you back with our family on Friday. Love you very much! Mom

I Thessalonians. 3:12 "May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else..." This is my prayer for each of you today, as I know God is working in your hearts even while he uses each of you to bless the people of Haiti. He is using you to give hope to hopeless and faith to the fatherless. It is an amazing thing to watch all that you are doing there, and it is a blessing to all of us that are able to be a part of this blog. Another verse for you as you seek to do the work of God...1 Cor. 15:58b " Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." All that you are doing is for Him and for His glory. What a lifelong blessing this is for you. I am glad to see that you had some down time today, as I guess that is just what God felt that you needed. I love you Derek Matthew! Sorry, had to say it:~)

Hey Rach! I just got home last night. Prayed for you and your group at St. Ann de Beaupre Basilica. It was so good to see this website finally, and to know that you are doing well! There is no greater feeling on earth than knowing you are using your gifts for God's purpose. You are seeing a glimpse of heaven right now! Close your eyes and drink in this moment. Be aware of all you hear, smell, and feel. These will make your memory keen when you return home, and will ignite a passion to fulfill His will again and again. I love you so much, and am so very proud of you!!

Austin ____ I'm so proud of you! I want you to know you and your family are everyday in my prayers. I'm praying for the souls of the children you are serving. Following God is not work if you find your niche. You will find new depths of compassion, tolerance, love, committment, and inner strength. You will find by helping the children in Haiti that your bonds with your own family, and with God will be stronger. You'll learn leadership skills and talents you never know existed. You'll make friends that will last a lifetime, even in the short time you are there. No one is immune from the bad things in life as the people you are serving are living testament, but with God as your holy father, Jesus in your heart, the Holy Spirit surrounding you, the angels watching over you, and your family behind you, you'll be able to keep your life in balance and look for the good in everything. I love you.

Hey Faxon girls! I was over the house tonight checking in on the house full of boys (Dad, Diezel, and Gus). Diezel played ball with me and I made sure Gus got some love. Dad seems to be subsisting on frozen dinners, but I think he will make it. We all miss you, but I can see from your pictures you are having a great time and making a big difference in the lives of the people there. Enjoy every minute! Praying for you and thinking of you everyday. Love you! xoxo

To Emilee and Koryssa: Sadie says " I love you Emmy and Koryssa really much and you love me too. I will miss you 'till you come back. I hope you have a good time and I hope you have a nice day in Haiti. Amen." :) From Jadon: "NO!" :) From Mommy Tour: Emilee - did you look under ALL the chairs yet? Katie Gore - Heads up! Koryssa - you're the cutest! We are praying for all of you by name this week and can't wait to hear all about how God has worked. Love that I can picture where you are and what you're doing. I know you must all be so tired but cling to these moments...God is at work and desires to use YOU! Love and prayers!

Phil. 4:8 This is one of my favorites. And now one of yours.... "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Phil. 4:13 Cling to the truth of these verses when times are hard. Hi Derek. Just wanted you to know that I am praying for you and your team! My prayer is that you will be a blessing to those you are ministering to but that in the process you will be blessed as only God can do. Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Melissa Gore

April 23, 2012 1:07 PM

Hi Kait (and everyone else!), I am praying for you every day! For both your safety, the many people you will meet as your serve, and also that God will open and soften your hearts to the many things I know you will see, hear, and experience in your time there. I imagine that in the coming days you'll begin to feel some tiredness that comes with doing something that stretches you and pulls you out of your comfort zone. For those times, remember all the prayers that are being said on your behalf! You are loved and supported. Keep in perspective that you are just a visitor in a place that is everyday reality for those you meet and minister to. Be open to letting your heart break and then change in the face of that truth. Keep humble. It will remind you that "all you have is Christ." You will understand in a whole new way how much God loves ALL people--remember the passage in Matthew about the sparrows? This morning I thought of one of my favorite verses (in The Message translation, which I think works really nicely for bringing some new implications to this particular passage) when I was praying for you, and I think it is particularly relevant: "Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life." —Galatians 6:4-5 God has given you (and all your teammates!) special gifts and talents, so make sure you appreciate that you all bring something different to the table in your ministry there. I know you will. Do your "creative best," putting the gifts of the Spirit that you have into practice. I love and miss you! Meliss

Hi son - I am hoping you are having a great time. It is pretty awesome to see all the prayers and support being sent to you and the team. We all anxiously wait for the updates each day to see how God is using you all. I'm sure the work is tiring but also rewarding. Today's LOOKUP2HIM text key word is FAITH. Since I can't forward them to you here are the messages to come across so far: Hebrews 11:6 - God says it is impossible to please Him without FAITH. Romans 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justifed through FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesions 3:12 - In Him and through FAITH in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I hope you find these an encouragement. More to come - Love and Miss you - Chief

He says to 'be still and know that HE is God'...That is my prayer for each of you. That in all of this, the ups and downs of the days, the blessings and the sadness of what you see around you, that you would be confident in the Father, who already has a perfect plan in place, that you will be still in Him and remember that He is God of all. Cling to Him, our unchanging and unfailing God! I love you Derek!

Marissa is harassing me about my first post as Dad!!!! She says I need to better identify myself. Missing my softball partner. My season starts next week and I have no one to work with me to get me back in the groove. You should be settling in by now. Hope you are holding up well. We have rain, rain and rain right now, I'll bet your weather is better. Have fun today:)

Hey team! I am praying for every one of you on this amazing trip. Remember, show them God's love but do not forget to tell them about Jesus' life! Every day is full of opportunities so take them. Get outside of your box and let God work through you. I wish I could have gone back with you guys but this just means I will be praying even harder for yall. Here is a verse for yall as you begin this unforgettable week. "It will not really be you speaking but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you" -Matthew 8:20. Have a GREAT time!!!! p.s. Jim, tell all the PPM staff and translators down there that I say Hi and that I miss them!

Hi Haiti team! I'm praying you have an awesome trip and that God will use you mightily! Even when you're tired God will give you strength to keep working. "Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:30-31 Hug some Haitian kids for me! :)
