We're back!

by Alissa Danielson | July 23, 2016 10:40 PM

Hey family and friends! We are so excited to be back in Benque! We landed in Belize at 2pm. We met our friends from Family in Christ in Colorado before making the 2 hour drive to Benque. Once in Benque, we unpacked our belongings and set up our home for the week. Then, we went to dinner where we were served stew chicken, rice, mashed potatoes, flour tortillas, bread, and pineapple juice. After dinner, we had an orientation meeting and then got settled for some much needed rest!

Sunday school and Bunk Beds

by Carlene Cummings | July 24, 2016 10:19 PM

This morning the team was able to join in Sunday school with the kids. Where Corey and Bryan were chosen to be in a skit about Jesus on the cross. It was a lot of fun and some people from the other team even dressed as clowns! The team had a lot of fun playing games and singing songs with the kids. After lunch they got a head stated on building bunk beds. The measured and cut all the wood they will need and were able to make 3 bunk beds!! Later this week the team with have to opportunity to deliver the beds to homes in the community. The night ended with an amazing church service with a lot of great worship and a message by Pastor Malgar. He preached about letting. The Holy Spirit manifest in our lives, and living a life devoted to Christ.

by Carlene Cummings | July 25, 2016 10:16 PM

Today was our first full day of ministry. Part of the team started out this morning building up the church walls. They are partially built already so he team is continuing what has been started. They got a lot done in the morning. Alex and Bryan joined be Family in Christ team to shop for food distribution. We bought food to fill basic needs family have. We will distribute he bags of food later this week. In the afternoon the team was able to deliver two bunk beds in to homes just down the street from the church. We bring the beds mostly built and finish them in the home. The families were so thankful!!

Chicken coop

by Carlene Cummings | July 26, 2016 11:21 PM

We started the day by hiking up a long road to reach the Mayan temples. We can see top of the temple from the church, so today we hiked up to the top. It was a long walk but well worth it. I'm the afternoon we started the chicken coop. It starts out a little slow due to the lack of certain materials and tools. But we finally got a good start and will be able to finish tomorrow. Everyone was able to help cut wood, dig post holes and screw the frame together. They all worked really hard! After dinner we met some kids and youths at soccer field for a friendly game of soccer. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of sweat!

Victory is ours!

by Carlene Cummings | July 28, 2016 12:05 AM

Today had it joys and struggles. In the morning we were able to go out in the community delivering food bags. It was a joy to meet the families and spend time talking with them and praying together! It was very touching to be able to see first hand the immediate effect of the work we have done. After lunch we continued building the chicken coop. It was a little difficult at times, not totally knowing how to build one. But everything worked out and it looked fantastic and will bless the pastor and the church greatly! Again everyone worked really hard. We couldn't have made it work with out our fearless leader Steve!! We also appreciated the help of our bus driver Leonard, he was always there helping! We ended with a great night of worship and thanks! Some people shared stories of the week and the leaders said a few words of thanks to the church and community. They have been such a blessing to us all week! They had a fun dance and lots of awesome songs.
