TurningPoint Community Church

This evening the team finally came! We got them settled in, hung out, ate some pizza and had our orientation meeting. Everyone is super excited for the trip and we are all expectant for what God has for us this week! Tomorrow the work (and fun) begins!

Today we were blessed enough to go to Monument of Love Baptist Church and join with them in worship and hear a great message! The church is incredibly vibrant and welcoming, and the message focused on those battles that we are trying to fight but ultimately we need to get out of the way because they are God's battles to fight! We even got to hear a praise report of a woman who only a few weeks ago was told she had cancer and the Lord surely fought her battles and she is now healed! After church we had a fun afternoon exploring Mud Island and the Bass Pro Pyramid. We ended the day with tacos and a talk about where we saw the Lord today. Tomorrow the ministry begins!

Today we went to Urban Farms, a local garden that sells food both at the local market and also gives food to families in need. We weeded, mulched, picked okra and arugula and planted seeds. Afterwards we stopped for a sno cone before heading to Rainbow Rehab. This is a retirement center and the team spent time talking to the residents and playing some bingo! Finally our day ended at Calvary Rescue Mission, a men's homeless shelter, where we participated in their chapel service and then served dessert and talked to the men! We are enjoying getting to know not only the people of Memphis but also each other this week so far!

We are getting the low down from Sandra about what this place is. The Lisuix Community is a place of safety for women that have been on the streets and need a place to lay their head at night.

Today was our 2nd day at Urban Farms. We cut more arugula, planted carrots, beets and squash and made a new bed for planting!

Today was our last day of ministry. We finished up at Urban Farms by weeding, mulching and doing a prayer walk around the gardens as well as praying for the man who runs it, Dennis. We then went back to Rainbow Rehab and played bingo with the residents and had fun visiting with them.

Today was our fun day! We started out with donuts and then went souvenir shopping along the river and on Biel Street! Then we went to eat at various places and met up at the bowling alley. We bowled a couple of games and then headed to the Peabody Hotel to watch the famous marching of the ducks! We ended our day with some classic Memphis barbecue and some hang out time!
