We're Here!

by Maddie Howell | July 20, 2017 7:23 PM

After finally getting out of the airport in Port Au Prince, we drove across town to our home base for the week: Good Shepard Orphanage! We spent the night talking about what this week is going to look like, and we are so excited for all we have planned. Above all else though, we know that whatever the Lord has in store here is going to be so much bigger than we could imagine.

First Day of Ministry!

by Maddie Howell | July 21, 2017 7:05 PM

This morning, we drove about thirty minutes to the church we will be serving at in Gressier. The construction part of the team passed buckets of water, rocks, and sand to mix concrete for the house we're working on. So many kids wanted to join!

While this was going on, the rest of the team did a Bible outreach ministry. We got to talk about Jesus with people in the community, and even got to learn how to hand wash clothes!

A Beautiful Feast

by Maddie Howell | July 21, 2017 7:08 PM

The leaders of church offered to make lunch for us today. We got to each fresh mango, and enjoy many other local foods. Mesì pou manje!

Feeding Program

by Maddie Howell | July 21, 2017 7:11 PM

After lunch, we got to be a part of the feeding program that happens each weekday at the orphanage. All of the community kids came hungry and joyful. They even wanted to share their food with all of us!

The rest of the day, we hungout at Good Shepard and played lots of sports. It was such a beautiful first full day here!

2nd Day of Ministry!

by Maddie Howell | July 22, 2017 10:17 PM

We split into two groups again this morning to do construction and Bible ministry. The construction crew sifted rocks and passed buckets of water to continue making concrete. It's always cool getting to see physical progress!

The Bible outreach was a success yet again. We got to meet new people in the area, and one lady we talked to decided to accept Christ for the first time. God is good!

2nd Day of Ministry!

Kids Ministry

by Maddie Howell | July 22, 2017 10:21 PM

Today we stayed in Gressier for lunch so that we could lead a kids ministry in the afternoon. We took an hour or so to prepare before getting started. We told two different bible stories, made bracelets, and played lots of games. Even with the language barrier, it seemed like the kids had so much fun!

Simon Says!

We had so much fun playing a game EVERYONE of us could understand.

Sunday Church

by Maddie Howell | July 23, 2017 10:06 PM

This morning, we were able to be a part of the church service. They were so excited to have us. We sang a song for the congregation and had the opportunity to experience their authentic community. The afternoon was spent relaxing at the orphanage so we can be ready for the next two days of work!

Third Day of Ministry!

by Maddie Howell | July 24, 2017 9:17 PM

Today for construction, we moved some big rocks and continued to help with mixing concrete. Everything is looking so good!

Outreach was also great. A lot of people were so quick to let us in their home. One family was even from France, so some of us got to have a conversation with them in French! Praise God once again for His ability to bring His creations together as one.

VBS

by Maddie Howell | July 24, 2017 9:22 PM

A few of us performed two skits for the kids today: "Daniel and the lion's den", and "Feeding the 5,000". We made crafts and played games again too. It's fun getting to just be free and connect with the kids, even when there is a language barrier!

Women's Ministry

by Maddie Howell | July 24, 2017 9:42 PM

After VBS, our women had the opportunity to talk to the women in the church. Even though there are differences in culture and language, we learned with talking to them that we really are all just daughters of our king.

Last Ministry Day

by Maddie Howell | July 25, 2017 8:18 PM

Today we finished our last ministry day. We  moved brick and mixed concrete for construction. Everyone was so tired by the end, but it was definitely worth it.

While this was going on, some of us walked around the community for outreach again. Jay got to meet a guy who makes kitchen cabinets just like him!

We helped with the feeding Program at Good Shepard too! Once again, the kids were so generous and fun to be around.

Rec Day

by Maddie Howell | July 26, 2017 7:23 PM

We started the day off driving up the mountain to see this stunning view! We later got to swim in the ocean all afternoon. We are so thankful to have gotten to witness the pure beauty of Haiti. It's sad going home, but we are so excited to share our experiences with our friends and family!
