Welcome to Iquitos!

by Katrina Hulme | March 9, 2024 7:13 AM

After a long trip, we made it to Peru!! Our first stop is for breakfast, and then we will head to the dock where we will load up the boat and travel down the Amazon River to our lodge. We are so excited to finally be here, and we cannot wait to see what the Lord will do this week!

Welcome to Iquitos!

And We're Off!

by Katrina Hulme | March 9, 2024 9:50 AM

We've traveled in buses and planes, and now we get to travel by boat! We are on our way down the Amazon River to get to our lodging for the week.

And We're Off!

At the Jungle Lodge

by Katrina Hulme | March 9, 2024 2:06 PM

Thank you for your prayers over our travels - we made it!! We can't believe that we are finally in the Amazon! After arriving at the lodge, we had a delicious lunch and our orientation meeting. We are all exhausted and looking forward to some well earned sleep tonight, but first we are taking time to make sure we are all set for ministry this week.

Fellowship in Irlanda Village

by Katrina Hulme | March 10, 2024 5:47 PM

Our team is splitting up between two different villages this week: Irlanda and Huanana. This morning, both groups started off with a worship service alongside the local church.

This group in Irlanda led a lot of the church service, and we can already see how God is at work here in the Amazon. The local church has made us feel welcomed, and the fellowship with other believers is so sweet!

Worship in Huanana Village

by Katrina Hulme | March 10, 2024 5:50 PM

Our other group was with the church in Huanana village, and some of us got to lead worship! Pastor Jose preached, and we got to enjoy some time of fellowship together with our Peruvian brothers and sisters.

by Katrina Hulme | March 10, 2024 5:52 PM

During the service, we had the opportunity to pray over some brothers from the village. We speak different languages, but the Lord understands the prayers in our heart!

Let the Children Come!

by Katrina Hulme | March 10, 2024 5:54 PM

After church in Irlanda Village, we had some time to hang out with the kids. We had some fun while sharing the love of Christ. We can't wait to see the same kids more throughout the week as we continue to have kids ministry activities!

Bags of Blessings

by Katrina Hulme | March 10, 2024 9:06 PM

This evening we packed up some basic groceries into these blue bags. Each bag represents a home or family that we will visit later this week. We don't know their names or stories yet, but God does! We are looking forward to meeting families in the community, and we pray that these bags of food will be reminders of God's love for them. In remote areas of the Amazon, He sees each person and cares for them, just like each of us! Please join us in praying for these families and conversations that we will have this week.

Food Distribution

by Katrina Hulme | March 11, 2024 7:08 PM

This morning, we started out with home visits in both villages! We not only are delivering the bag of food, but we are spending time asking questions and sharing about the hope we have in Christ. Pastor Jose is visiting families with us, so we pray that these visits create open doors for him to continue ministry after we leave.

A Gift of Hospitality

by Katrina Hulme | March 11, 2024 7:11 PM

As we are doing home visits, we feel blessed to be invited into a stranger's home! Although they do not know us, they welcome us in, share about their lives, and allow us to pray with them.

Water Break!

by Katrina Hulme | March 11, 2024 7:14 PM

With this heat, we are always looking for the shade trees to get some relief from the hot sun! And of course, we need to take some breaks to stay hydrated!!

Prayer with Families

Muddy Soccer

You may be wondering why some of us are covered in mud.... That's because we can't resist a game of soccer, even after it rains!!

God Provides the Growth

by Katrina Hulme | March 11, 2024 7:36 PM

During our kids ministry time, many of the parents and church members also come to listen and observe. We may help plant seeds in the kids' hearts, and both parents and the church community will help water their faith. Ultimately, we know that God will provide the growth! (1 Corinthians 3:6-8)

Fun and Games!

by Katrina Hulme | March 11, 2024 7:37 PM

We had so much fun with the kids today, and the parachute was a big hit! We can't wait to come back tomorrow to see the kids again!

Another Day, More Visits!

by Katrina Hulme | March 12, 2024 8:50 PM

This morning we were back to the two villages to visit families, distribute groceries, and pray with them. Each person has a different story, different challenges, and different prayer requests. Still, through our visits, we are able to understand more about what life is like in the villages on the Amazon River, and we are learning so much!

Volleyball

by Katrina Hulme | March 12, 2024 8:54 PM

Today's sport of choice was volleyball! We played locals versus mission team, and although we gave it our all, the locals definitely won. Nothing like a mission trip to keep us humble!

Jesus Calms the Storm

by Katrina Hulme | March 12, 2024 8:56 PM

Our VBS lesson today was based on Matthew 8:23 when Jesus calms the storm. We shared about how powerful Jesus is, and then of course played some games & did some crafts!

Power of Prayer

by Katrina Hulme | March 13, 2024 8:03 PM

Today was our last day of ministry, and it was a full day! We visited more families and distributed the rest of the food bags. We believe in the power of prayer, which is why it has been such a big part of our week here in Peru. While we know that we cannot solve everyone's problems in a week, we believe in a God who can still do miracles and bring comfort in difficult circumstances. So we will continue to pray for the people we met even after we go home!

Feeding the 5000

by Katrina Hulme | March 13, 2024 8:10 PM

For our last day of VBS in Irlanda Village, we shared the story of when Jesus fed the 5,000. What a mighty God we serve!

These were some hard goodbyes today as we said goodbye to our new friends. We pray that they heard God's truth and felt His love these last few days.

#Blessed

by Katrina Hulme | March 13, 2024 8:14 PM

We have prayed over many people this week, but we have also been prayed for! We have seen the faith of this church community, and we are thankful for their prayers over us before we depart.

Praying for Pastor's Family

by Katrina Hulme | March 13, 2024 8:17 PM

In Huanana, we prayed as a group over Pastor Jose and his family. We have seen some of the challenges of being a Pastor here in the Amazon, and we know that it is a difficult and lonely calling. So we are praying for Pastor to be encouraged, that all his needs will be met, and that the Gospel would continue to go forth through his family!

by Katrina Hulme | March 14, 2024 5:05 PM

We are back in Iquitos! After a busy and hot week, we are enjoying a nice dinner at a restaurant with a pool and a great view of the Amazon River. It is a great way to relax and reflect after a full week before we start our long travels home tomorrow!

Hasta Luego!

by Katrina Hulme | March 15, 2024 1:53 PM

We wrapped up our week with a day in Iquitos to shop for souvenirs, eat more delicious food, and prepare for our travels back home. We are continuing to process everything the Lord did and showed us this week, and we will remember our Peruvian friends that we met this week. Now, please pray for us as we begin our travels back home!
