PPM Disaster Response: Texas Panhandle Wildfires
The largest wildfire in Texas history has burned nearly 1.3 million acres in the Texas Panhandle and stretching into Oklahoma, killing thousands of livestock, incinerating crops, and destroying hundreds of structures along its path.
The fire continues to reach more and more areas and more people are having to leave their homes and possessions behind to seek shelter. We have spoken with a few churches in the affected areas to have a better understanding of how we can come alongside them to help those communities. One of those churches is in Fritch, a small community of about 2000 residents, where over 200 homes have been destroyed.
We are exploring opportunities to come alongside those churches to encourage and assist them in reaching out to their communities. Please pray alongside us for our brothers and sisters enduring this tragic and deadly natural disaster.

As of Monday, March 11, 2024, the Smokehouse Creek Fire---which became the largest wildfire fire in State History---was 89% contained. Praise the Lord! Firefighters have secured nearly the entire perimeter around the fire, stopping it from spreading. This is a significant improvement from last week when the fire was only 37% contained.
The fire has burned nearly 1.3 million acres since it started near Stinnett in Hutchinson County, about 60 miles Northeast of Armarillo.
At Praying Pelican Missions, we are still prayerfully considering extending a helpful hand to at least one of the hurting communities through a local church. We are currently connected with a church in Fritch, TX where nearly 200 families were displaced because of the loss of their homes. We are targeting the week of April 12 to send a team to begin helping those families recover.
