Each disaster will be unique in our response timeline.  If the event is a hurricane you can expect communication to start as soon as we start tracking a storm.  If the event is a tornado or sudden storm you can expect communication as soon as we are aware.  In scenarios where we decide to respond you can expect to be boots on the ground around 2 weeks after a storm.

As Readiness Team members your trips are a bit more flexible.  We will generally open up certain weeks in the month after a storm where you are free to come and serve.  If you are only free a few days during that week that is absolutely fine. Similarly, if you have a couple weeks free and you are willing to be a volunteer site coordinator you are welcome to stay for up to three weeks.

You will need to bring clothing for the duration of the trip(laundry will most likely not be available). You will also need to bring bedding, a pillow, and a towel. 

PPM will have air mattresses or a bunk trailer on site so there is no need to bring a mattress. Please make sure all your items are labeled with your name or initials. If you have specific tools you would like to bring you are welcome, but PPM is not responsible for damage or loss and will not be able to compensate you for lost or damaged materials.

Depending on the severity of the storm there are two options for lodging. 1) If our partners are able to host, we will be lodging inside these churches on air mattresses. 2) If there are no churches able to host us inside, we will be setting up bunk trailers in partnership with Missions on Wheels in the church parking lot.

Immediately following a disaster PPM will work to establish connections with churches in affected areas.  It is our hope we will find churches active in serving their communities and who might have a list of homeowners

I'm glad you asked! Facilitating these quality service opportunities typically costs PPM $71 per person per day. That is roughly $500 for each volunteer per week. The Readiness Team will predominantly respond to large scale disasters which have a federally declared state of emergency.  Many times this means we will be in brand new locations for PPM’s operations.  Given this, our Readiness Team trips will fall outside of what we would typically do for a PPM trip.  In certain instances it may be the case that the only thing you know before arrival is the host site address.
