...and drives, and walks. Our Bethel Community Church crew actually walked across the border into Mexico this morning, and we are now several hours south in Hermosillo, our home for the week! We settled into the hotel, met Pastor Arturo's family (including two new daschund puppies, less than two weeks old, "preciosos!") as well as many members of the congregation, worshipped with them and talked about our plans for the next few days. Our dinner was delicious and relaxing: for those who came last year, this was a high-priority return visit to the much-lauded Burro del Gordo :)

On Monday and Tuesday mornings, the group went to the "terreno", a piece of property where Pastor Arturro is preparing to start a new church

There were holes to fill as well as bushes to pull out of the rocky, sandy soil, and some interesting buried trash - er, treasure - to unearth

Pastor Arturro was happy, and the group was proud. We finished all the work we hoped to do at the terreno.

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, the group visited two hospitals in Hermosillo: the major general hospital and children's hospital for the entire state of Sonora. Many of the patients come from out of town, so people gather daily in the hospital courtyards, away from their homes and work, to wait for their sick family members. With Pastor Arturro and several members of his church, the Bethel youth served coffee and a breakfast of posole, sang worship songs in Spanish and English, shared their tesitmonies, and offered to pray for the individuals and families present. It was a meaningful ministry, powerful mornings for everyone!
and we played...

After an eventful afternoon at the Internado - a school complex that houses 200+ children who are orphans or boarders who travel home only on some weekends - our group beat the crowds to the park near Arturro's church. It was wonderful to play with the kids at the Internado, and later in the evening for a sports "tournament" at the park - it's truly heart-filling and humbling to share in the joy of a game as friends, regardless of language and age - but this basketball game was nice too. Just the Bethel group and a few others, a quiet bonding moment in the cool of sunset!

The group lead a song for our host church; we overflowed the stage space with people, and the music was surely heard through the streets :)

As I look out at our grey sky this morning, I think about how different your day is looking; different and yet the same in one very important way: our Great Shepherd is guiding every moment - big and little. Praying that you grow in sensing His heart, and in oneness. Looking forward to more updates!
