We made it!
by Laura

Everyone is here and accounted for! After layovers in Guatemala and El Salvador, the plane finally arrived in Belize early this morning. Despite flying through the night, everyone was excited to be here! We drove into the city and unloaded our luggage at Kings Park Nazarene Church, where we are sleeping, before going to Queen Street Baptist church, where we will be serving during the week. After our first meal of authentic Belizean cooking, we started working on the construction project.
We began painting the outside of the school, hammered away at the concrete at the bottom of the fence and ripped down the fence that we will replace tomorrow. Many from Queen Street church came out to help as well.
After construction, we headed two blocks down the road to Majestic Alley, a basketball court and alleyway that is in very close proximity to many homes. Within a short amount of time, children started pouring out of the homes to play basketball, frisbee and jump rope, get their nails painted, make some crafts and read on the blankets we had spread out for them. We are very excited to see them tomorrow!
So much activity on so little sleep means its time for bed! Please pray that God will restore our energy and multiple the hours of sleep we get so we can serve Him through all we do tomorrow.

a FULL day

Our first full day spent in Belize and it was jam packed! I'll let the pictures do most of the talking....But here is a run down:
The morning was spent at an orphanage in Belize City, then to painting at the church and putting up the fence around the church yard, followed by an afternoon of sports and bubbles with the little kids in Majestic Alley and concluding with an evening for the kids at the church, complete with face painting, crafts, songs, rub-on tattoos and a message from the pastor. Phew. Slept long and hard last night.
Today we begin with a little bit of recreation at the Mayan Ruins, Altun Ha. Loving the comments, thanks for all the prayers!

New Years Eve
by Laura
December 31, 2009 at 06:09 PM

The days go by and more paint keeps going up on that school and more kids keep coming to join us for sports! We truly been blessed with weather that cooperates when we need it, kids that just keep coming out from the woodwork to hear about God, amazing cooks that have kept our energy up with their delicious meals and wonderful hosts that have given us their church to stay in. Not to mention the hospitality we have found from Queen Street Baptist to host our team. Tonight, we are resting from our long day of construction and kids before the service tonight. We will be participating in their Watch Night service. A very big deal down here in Belize. It will go from 10am to midnight.

Happy New Years, everyone!

Last Day of Ministry...
by 25453548
January 2, 2010 at 10:08 AM

It's hard to believe it's already the last full day of ministry in Belize City....

So much has been accomplished, both in the physical work we put into Queen Street Baptist church and school, but also in the many seeds that have been planted in the communities we have been involved with. The childrens' home visit was a hard one yesterday, as we loved having the time to play with them, but also hurt as we said goodbye.
We then got to work on the school. We have poured so much of ourselves into the project and it shows. The school and 4 of its classrooms are looking great. I talked with one teacher who came to check on the progress. He was so thankful and can't wait to start putting posters back on the wall to have it kid-ready come school on Monday. Today's task is a final sweep through to clean up and to finish the fence. We will be mixing up cement and pouring it over the base of the fence to hold it in place and make it less easy to break in through. Please pray that the weather stays clear and rain-free for this project.

Tonight we will host a youth night at the church we have been staying at, King's Park. They have offered us so much in the way of sleeping facilities, that this is one small way to pay them back.

Please lift us up in your prayers as we go out to the island tomorrow and have some time to process through this week and what all God has done through it. See you soon!

Wow! It seems like you have been gone a long time and yet can't believe it's almost over. I can't wait to hear all the stories. We will keep you in our prayers as you wrap things up in Belize and begin to travel homeward. Thank you so very much for your willingness to serve. You have been the hands and feet of all of us - the hands and feet of Christ! Praise be to God!

Hey everybody! Sounds like you had a very busy day. You all look so hot and sweaty in all the photos. We are looking at a possibility of -15 here tonight. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! How wonderful to be where you are for this holiday! We were painting at the church today. As I painted the walls in our church I found myself thinking of you there - painting the walls of the church in Belize. It was kind of a cool way to be thinking about you and holding you up in prayer. We are praying for you to get the rest you guys need to keep going. Thank you all so much for serving on this trip. I pray that God is your strength and your comfort.

Praying for you all. Hope all is well. We're in awe of your willingness to step out in faith to answer the call of God to go there and be His representation allowing Him to work through you. Praying for you that you can do His worked unhindered by whatever may cause a disruption to God's purpose. United in Christ encouraging each other you can accomplish the tasks He has given you and strengthen each other. Z&M we're saving some of the new fallen snow for you to shovel (haha) and please bring back some warm temps for us. Love you all, Steve & Connie (D&M)

I appreciated Rodger's comments to you all. Our prayers continue for you, that you would find renewed strength in the Lord, that you would experience His Peace and calm in whatever storm or challenge you are going through and that you would resolve any differences you may have as a team. United in Christ is what you are and it is in His power and your humility that you serve. Again, thanks for being faithful to Him. G

Praise God! I was so glad to hear that you all made it - safe and sound. Please, know that we are holding you up in prayer, daily. It's so cold here. From your pictures it looks like nothin' but sunshine! Open your arms, your minds, your hearts to the Lord and let Him be your power and your strength. Thanks for being willing to serve! Love you guys :-)

Rodger Gorsline

During my quiet time today I was struck with the amazing possibilities that may come about as a result of this ministry trip, knowing that many times the people who are doing the ministry, are the ones who receive the greater blessing. Could it be that as a result of this ministry trip one or more of our students or leaders might be led by the Lord to go into full time service for the Lord? Think of it! From Rev. 19.... And I saw heaven opened; and behold He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True....And His eyes are a flame of fire and upon His head are many diadems;...and His name is called THE WORD OF GOD...And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS"....For all of us, what could surpass serving this King of Glory? My prayer for you all is that your service would be in the power of His own Holy Spirit and that great things would be done in your lives and the lives of those who you are ministering to, for the glory of our God!
